At Wingate, Russotti, Shapiro, Moses & Halperin, LLP, we are devoted to helping hardworking individuals achieve a brighter future. Whether by representing a disabled construction worker in a settlement negotiation or an injured pedestrian in a court trial, we dedicate all of our resources to ensuring they can move forward with their lives. But we do not just believe in fighting for people in the courtroom; we also believe in supporting today’s students in achieving higher education.
This is why, for the fourth year now, we are bringing back the Foundation For Your Future Scholarship! We are offering one high school senior or college student the chance to win a $2,500 scholarship for post-secondary expenses. In order to apply, applicants simply need to submit a well-written essay by April 27, 2021. This scholarship is open to all citizens, permanent residents, and DACA recipients who are in good standing with their schools.
Essay Prompt
All applicants must submit a 500- to 1,000-word essay answering the following prompt:
Extraordinary people leave an indelible mark on the world – and on the people around them. WRSH’s founder, William Wingate, was one of those men. A World War II Navy veteran, Bill served on the Board of Directors of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, served as Deputy Mayor of the Village of Ocean Beach, and was a leading member in numerous community, religious, and charity organizations, honored and beloved for his contributions. We offer this scholarship on the eleventh anniversary of his passing, and ask you to answer a simple question: Who do you look up to, and why?
The 2020 Foundation For Your Future winner, Allysa T., submitted an amazing essay detailing her father’s journey to achieve a degree while in prison at San Quentin. Based on his inspiring words and commitment to reaching his goals, Allysa devoted her life to not only pursuing a higher education, but also founding Walls to Bridges, a non-profit that helps keep system-impacted families connected despite incarceration. Application Deadlines
Applications are due on April 27, 2021, and we will not be accepting any more essays past that deadline. We will announce the finalists of the Foundation For Your Future scholarship on May 11, 2021, on both our blog and Facebook. Make sure to check back for future announcements and updates.
