Four children and a woman were injured in a New York City car accident involving an Uber driver. According to an ABC 7 New York news report, the car accident happened on East Kingsbridge Road in the Fordham section of the Bronx.
Officials say the taxi hopped the curb and struck four children and a mother. An 8-year-old girl was trapped under the car and suffered multiple leg injuries and internal bleeding. Her 5-year-old brother sustained leg injuries, chest trauma, cuts and bruises. Two other children, boys aged 10 and 7, suffered minor injuries. The 33-year-old mother has been listed in stable condition. It is unclear if the driver will face charges but the Taxi and Limousine Commission has suspended the livery cab driver.
Pedestrian accidents often result in complicated liability cases where pedestrians and drivers share some responsibility for their actions. But there are crashes where it is clear that the pedestrians did nothing to lead to the crash. When a car jumps a curb and strikes pedestrians who were carefully walking along the sidewalk, the insurance provider of the at-fault driver should act quickly to provide fair compensation for the injuries suffered by the victims.
It is common for victims of New York City pedestrian accidents to struggle to receive the support they need. Insurance adjusters regularly offer inadequate settlements to close cases cheaply and quickly. In other cases, they look for reasons to completely deny valid claims. This is why victims of serious injuries should review their options with a New York City pedestrian accident attorney.
You SHOULD NOT speak with an insurance adjuster or accept a settlement without first receiving legal guidance. Financial compensation should be made available for all physical, financial and emotional losses suffered in a crash. DO NOT accept an offer that doesn’t include support for current and future medical bills, the cost of rehabilitation, pain and suffering, lost wages, loss of earning potential and a number of other related damages.
If you have been injured in a pedestrian accident, call the police and remain at the scene of the crash. After collecting contact information from everyone involved in the crash and from anyone who witnessed the accident, take photos of your injuries and seek out medical attention right away. An experienced New York City personal injury lawyer can help you get the support you need and rightfully deserve.
