Woman Killed at Queens Intersection

Pedestrian AccidentA 52-year-old woman was killed and her relatives were among survivors of an accident involving an SUV losing control after running a red light. According to NBC New York news, the fatal pedestrian accident happened at Atlantic Avenue and 108th Street in Richmond Hill. Officials say a 43-year-old woman in an SUV went through the red light and was hit by a Kia. The SUV then jumped the sidewalk and struck a 2-year-old girl, her 48-year-old mother and a 52-year-old relative. Witnesses say one of the women tried to push the child out of the path of the car.

Queens Construction Worker Killed in Avoidable Trench Collapse

This past April, a 22-year-old Queens man was recently killed in a construction accident when the trench he was working in collapsed. According to an EHS Today news report, safety investigators have determined the fatal trenching accident was completely preventable. Officials with the Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) say that neither the general contractor nor subcontractor provided cave-in protection for the trench. They didn’t even brace a section of the trench to support the sidewalk.

Woman Killed in Brooklyn Hit and Run Crash

NYC Hit and RunA 59-year-old woman using a walker was killed in a New York City car accident involving a hit-and-run driver. According to a PIX 11 news report, the fatal pedestrian accident happened at 42nd Street and 9th Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Officials say she was attempting to cross the road at the intersection when a white minivan struck her and drove away. She was pronounced dead at Lutheran Medical Center. The investigation to find the hit-and-run driver is underway.

Every driver in New York has a legal responsibility to remain at the scene of an accident when someone has been injured or killed. Drivers must alert emergency services, remain at the crash site, exchange information and provide insurance details to all parties involved.
