Attorney Carmine Goncalves of Wingate, Russotti, Shapiro, Moses & Halperin, LLP, successfully negotiated a $3,350,000 settlement for a 46-year-old union carpenter injured while working at the Javits Center. The carpenter was dismantling a tradeshow booth when an unsecured 8-foot-high glass panel wall that weighed over 400 pounds fell from an adjacent booth and struck him. Apparently, the wall was meant to be rigged with safety straps. However, critical surveillance footage obtained by Carmine revealed that it was never actually secured to the nearby forklift. As a result of the collapsed wall, our client suffered injuries to his shoulders, knees, neck, and lower back, which led to years of painful therapy, multiple injections, and eventual surgeries on his left shoulder, both knees, and lower back. Carmine demonstrated to the court that the defendants were entirely at fault, and just before trial, the parties opted for mediation. After three rounds, Carmine secured a settlement that provided our client with adequate compensation for his injuries, ongoing pain, past lost wages, and future earnings he’s unable to generate due to his condition.
