Plaintiff, represented by attorney Jason Rubin, was a 21-year-old man with epilepsy who experienced breakthrough seizures while on several anti-epileptic medications. A defendant doctor added a medication to plaintiff’s regimen which caused him to develop symptoms of toxicity. A second doctor failed to timely discontinue the medication. As a result, plaintiff developed a severe case of toxic epidermal necrolysis — a life-threatening condition that causes peeling and blistering of the skin and mucous membranes. Consequently, plaintiff required a lengthy hospitalization and sustained significant scarring/damage to his skin and eyes. Plaintiff died several years later, unrelated to the alleged malpractice.
