Woman Injured in a Two-Vehicle Collision with NYPD Tow Truck
Clifford Shapiro, Robert Bellinson and another WRSMH attorney were able to obtain a settlement in the amount of $1,500,000 on behalf of a fifty-one year old librarian from Bronx County. The woman was driving her vehicle along a local roadway in the Bronx when a N.Y.P.D. tow truck backed up into her while attempting to tow an illegally parked vehicle, causing a serious collision. As a result of the accident, our client suffered injuries to her lower back which required surgery. During the course of the litigation, the firm was able to win a decision from the Court that the defendants were 100% responsible for the happening of the collision, despite the defendants contending that they did nothing wrong. Robert then took the case to trial.
At the start of the trial, the defendants took the position that our client's injuries were not caused by the collision in question, and made a settlement offer of only $75,000. After several days of trial during which Rob presented our evidence on the issue of damages while Cliff engaged the defendants in extensive settlement negotiations, the defendants had a significant change of heart and was able to settle the case for the amount of $1,500,000.
