Our client, a 56 year old Florida man, was injured while visiting a friend's house in Suffolk County.
He exited his friend's home through a back door onto a large wooden elevated deck. As he turned to his right and took two steps, his foot became entangled in a large extension cord that was lying on the deck, causing him to fall down a flight of steps leading from the deck.
Our client suffered a tear in his right knee which required arthroscopic surgery. He underwent a second surgery a year later, a total knee arthroplasty. He subsequently developed an infection in his right knee after the surgery. Our client then underwent a third procedure, a debridement of the right knee wound infection. The case was on the trial calendar, but Wingate, Russotti, Shapiro, Moses & Halperin, LLP attorney Michael J. Fitzpatrick settled the matter at mediation for $400,000.
